FCR Electrical on site at Brent Cross fit out

LONDON BRENT CROSS FLIP OUT ELECTRICAL INSTALLATION AND REMEDIAL WORKS

FCR Electrical on site at Brent Cross fit out

FCR Electrical had been recommended by one of the fit our contractors who was working on the Brent Cross Flip out trampoline venue. Flip Out needed some urgent electrical remedial works completing whilst the main fit out was being carried out following on from an unsatisfactory EICR report.

Who Are Flip Out?

If you have kids, I am sure you are aware of Flip Out and the fun the kids can have at these venues. If you are not familiar with Flip Out. Flip Out are The UK’s leading adventure and trampoline park operators.

They have 29 venues across the UK from Glasgow in Scotland all the way down to Ashford in Kent. Follow the link here for more details and locations https://www.flipout.co.uk/

What Is An EICR Inspection?

If you are wondering what an EICR or Electrical Installation Condition Report is. An EICR is an electrical report carried out on an electrical installation to evaluate if the installation is in a safe enough condition for it’s continued use.

There are laws and rules in place as when an EICR should be carried out and how often. Your insurance company may also have their own recommendations on how often an updated EICR should be carried out

Follow this link to a commercial EICR we carried out earlier in the year https://www.fcrelectrical.co.uk/commercial-eicr-out-of-hours-in-liverpool/

Commercial Electrical Installation Work

Having been asked if we could help within the very tight timeframe to carry out these works, we jumped at the chance.

The initial work involved installing 11 x 16-amp radial circuits within the venue to power the new ginormous inflatable adventure that was being installed, this thing is massive and looks a great bit of fun. This work was carried out during the main fit out works. On completion we provided all the necessary certification to go with the work carried out.

Whilst our team Charlie and James were on site, FCR was approached about the unsatisfactory EICR remedial works that needed to be carried.

If these remedials were not carried out then it could impact the venue on opening, with the kids six weeks holidays only days away FCR jumped into action.

As soon as we had the work order in place, we had the materials sent straight down to site and got working on the list of remedials, the electrical remedial works were completed within four days and a satisfactory electrical EICR report was issued.

Brent Cross is now open for lots of fun.

If you have a commercial venue and would like to book an EICR or discuss what your needs may be fill out the below form now and one of our engineers will give you a call.

    Three Bedroomed Rewire In Fleetwood

This week electrical rewire is a three bedroomed mid terraced house in Fleetwood. This project was a tricky project to execute. The property is a mid-terraced house with solid concrete floors and laminate flooring in the rear room. With he property having solid floors downstairs it meant all of the cables had to be installed through the first floor joists. This resulted in more flooring needing to be lifted than usual.

Before our clients purchased this property they purchased an EICR (Electrical installation condition report) which on completion identified that the property would benefit from an electrical rewire. If you are purchasing a property older than 25 years old we always recommend having an EICR carried out so you know the condition of the wiring and have no nasty surprises once moved in.

Originally the property was going to be empty which always makes rewiring your home easier. However, due to delays in the completion dates on this property our clients had to move into the property.

This added extra challenges to the project. Our clients were going to be living in the property, they have two nervous house cats and one of our clients works from home.

First issue, we could not leave our customers with no power for any length of time due to the working from home situation. We had to ensure that the rewiring was carried out so that we could energise the new circuits as we went to minimise disruption.

Our original target for completion of this project was five days. Our clients already had other trades booked in to follow on from us which meant, even with the extra work load we had to meet our client’s deadline.

We are pleased that we managed to complete this project in the five days allocated to us completing the work at 6.00pm on the Friday. After all of the dust, disruption and inconvenience we was pleased to hand over this project along with the relevant electrical certificates.

5 Things To Consider When Rewiring Your Kitchen

Having a new kitchen installed in your home is a great way to add value to your property. Ensuring your kitchen electrical installation is up to standards and current regulations is really important as if the installation is in a poor condition, then you may need to remove your new kitchen to repair or rewire your kitchen.

Here are five things to consider before installing your kitchen.

      1. If your property is over 25 years old it is advisable to rewire the kitchen circuit, cable manufacturers only guarantee pvc cables for around 25 years. If you are installing a new kitchen, it is reasonable to expect your kitchen to last at least ten years, this would result in the original wiring being around 35-40 years old. At this age you can expect wiring faults and problems which may result in having to remove your kitchen to repair.
      2. Modern kitchens have many more electrical appliances installed than in previous generations. This can range from two ovens, dishwashers, warming draws, microwave grills, tumble dryers, hot taps to name a few. Rewiring your kitchen taking into consideration all of the new appliances that will be installed is a wise move and ensures your kitchen electrical installation is up to the demands of modern life.
      3. If you make alterations to your existing wiring and add additional sockets, then these sockets will need RCD protection. If your wiring is 25-30 years old your current socket circuits may not be RCD protected. Installing a new consumer unit to current wiring regulations would be a perfect time when upgrading your kitchen. This would ensure your installation is keeping up with current wiring regulations. This will help if you ever come to sell your property.
      4. Your new kitchen layout may be different to your current kitchen layout. If you need to alter the locations of sockets and switches it makes sense to rewire the circuits. It is just the same amount of work to alter an electrical circuit as it is to rewire your kitchen circuit. Rewiring your kitchen will give you peace of mind that the circuit will not fail and cause wiring issues in the future.
      5. Rewiring your property adds value to your home. Rewiring your house can cause disruption and lots of dust as does installing a new kitchen. Carrying out both jobs at the same time limits dust, disruption, and inconvenience. Rewiring your home and installing a new kitchen are two of the most disruptive but rewarding jobs to be carried out in your home. What better way than to do them at the same time?

TWO BEDROOMED REWIRE IN NOVEMBER 2022

Just before Christmas we received a call from a customer asking if we could quote for an electrical rewire and carry the rewire out before Christmas.

Now, the six weeks running up to Christmas is our busiest period as everybody is wanting their projects completed for the big day. However, in this case we jumped at the chance and the race was on!

WHY DID THIS PROPERTY NEED REWIRING?

Our customer’s problem was all his electrics kept blowing leaving him with no sockets or power for the heating boiler. Obviously, with Christmas coming, the weather starting to get colder, and no power is not ideal. This problem occurs more in older properties as they tend to only have two or three circuits, this can cause major issues if a fuse blows as it can knock out all of the sockets or all of the lights in a property. When you have your property rewired, your electrical installation is typically split over seven or eight separate circuits which limits the disruption if an MCB is to trip off.

Fylde Coast rewires carried out a site visit so we could complete a rewiring quotation and advise what we would require for us to carry out the rewire within the timescale.

We issued the quotation and documents ready for the rewiring to start. This was a two bedroomed semi-detached property with an outbuilding, it was lived in, however our client stayed out for two nights which really helped to speed up the rewiring process. See more of this project on our Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/photo?fbid=524337153043215&set=pcb.524338769709720

This project was completed in three days. We had fully rewired the upstairs and downstairs sockets, upstairs and downstairs lights, the kitchen circuits including the boiler, installed a new consumer unit and re-supplied the outbuildings. ONROOF SOLAR 4Kw SOLAR PANEL INSTALL

Fcr Electrical contractors latest solar panel system has now been installed in Blackpool, this system consists of a 4Kw solar array of 10 panels using the on-roof system.

The on-roof system is simply as it suggests, you mount a rail system on the roof which are fixed to the roof using Solar limpets which fix to the roofing battens. Once you have the rails secured to the roof then the panels simply bolt to the rail system. The only draw back to this system is you may get unwanted pigeons or seagulls nesting under them, to counter this you can fit a trim around the panels. Check out the video by clicking the link below

          https://youtube.com/shorts/yvdXhxDLcnc?feature=share

For this install we again installed the inverter inside the garage, this is for a couple of reasons, first it makes maintenance easy due to the easy access of the equipment, the second reason is for safety, the equipment is fairly heavy and also electronic, although very small there is still a fire risk which we believe installing the equipment in the loft ads to the hazards.

The inverter installed is a Solis 5.6Kw inverter and is easy to install and set up.

            SOLAR PANEL INSTALLATION THORNTON-CLEVELEYS

This week FCR Electrical & Mechanical finally got Augusts first solar panel installation under way, the delays are due to sourcing Solar materials, the biggest shortage is the roof surface mounting brackets. To counter this issue, we are now including with all our Solar Panel installations the in- roof mounted system, this system does look neater and will also help to stop birds from nesting under the panels.

This system we are installing is a 4kw 12 panel solar system with a 5Kwh battery storage system. For this system we are going to install the system invertor and battery in the garage where it is best positioned for easy access and maintenance.

As the roof of this property faces East and West, we are mounting one string of six panels on the East side of the roof pitch and one string of six panels on the West side of the roof pitch, This will allow the panels to pick the sun up and provide electrical power through out the day. The way the panels are going to be mounted we have allowed the option to add additional panels in the future which will boost the electricity generating capacity.

If you are considering Solar panels then check out our blog on how solar panels can help with the spiralling cost of electricity and help with he cost of living here https://www.fcrelectrical.co.uk/7-reasons-to-fit-solar/

              7 REASONS TO FIT SOLAR

              FREE ELECTRICITY.

There is no better feeling in the world than receiving things for free. Installing solar panels to your home helps you to generate free electricity, with the cost of electricity at all time highs, there is no better time than right now. Prices will only go one way

THEY HELP LOWER YOUR CARBON FOOTPRINT.

There is a huge push by the UK Government and globally for us all to be kinder to the environment and lower our carbon footprint. Generating free electricity from your solar panels eliminates the need to consume electricity from the National grid, which is produced by power stations, this is kinder on the environment, helps lower your carbon footprint

CAR YOUR ELECTRIC CAR DIRECT FROM THE SOLAR PANELS.

This is a great reason, if you own or are thinking buying an electric car you can charge your car direct from your solar panels. Owning an electric car is a great way to stay away from the spiralling costs of petrol and diesel. Eliminate your fuel costs and your carbon footprint.

              BATTERIES.

Did you know, if you install a battery on your solar system, any unused energy that is generated during the day will be stored in your battery. This helps if you are a working family and use most of your energy in the evening when you and your family are home from school or work. This works well during the winter months when the sun sets earlier, and you need to save as much generated energy as possible.

              ENERGY INDEPENDENCE.

Installing a solar system helps you be independent from the energy grid, there are talks of energy black outs and power cuts, Solar panels produce electricity independently from the grid enabling you to negate power cuts.

              LOW MAINTENANCE.

Solar panels and solar systems are relatively low maintenance and require the minimum input once installed.

QUALIFIES FOR INSENTIVES AND TAX BREAKS.

The Government very rarely give anything away, Installing Solar panels qualify for VAT free allowance which means you do not have to pay VAT. Your installer will claim the VAT back on the materials saving you 20% on your solar panels. Solar panels may also add value to your home as they will make your home more attractive to a potential buyer. Click here to read HMRC website on zero rated VAT https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/changes-to-the-vat-treatment-of-the-installation-of-energy-saving-materials-in-in-great-britain/the-value-added-tax-installation-of-energy-saving-materials-order-2022

Above are just 7 reasons to choose to have solar panels installed on your Fylde Coast home. There are many other reasons which will vary from person to person. With the rising and unpredictable costs of energy and the VAT free incentive from the Government now is a great time to invest in solar. TWO BEDROOMED BUNGALOW REWIRE IN POULTON-LE-FYLDE

This week Fylde Coast rewires have started the week with a rewire of a two bedroomed bungalow in Poulton. Our client had contacted FCR as she was concerned with the state of the current wiring in the property. At the time our customer was not sure if she s going to sell the property or keep it for the long term. Either way, the properties electrics need to be safe.

After calling to look at the installation and provide a written quotation we did notice a few issues, the main concern for ourselves was the fact that the lighting circuits had no cpc (circuit protective conductor) or earth conductor. This could be potentially dangerous if any of the light fittings or light switches are metal, the reason for this is if there is a fault on the circuit and the metal casing becomes live under these fault conditions then there is the potential for a full 230v electric shock. Not good! Here is a link to the professional electrician magazine for an article on lighting cpc’s /https://professional-electrician.com/technical/lighting-circuits-without-cpc/

There were also some issues with the power sockets and many junction boxes under the floors, this would not always present as a problem, however during the winter months when we get a lot of rain on the Fylde Coast then there is a potential to cause the RCD to trip, this usually happens in November during the night! Also, the sockets were not in the correct places for ease of use for our client, it is quicker to rewire the socket circuits and this has also given peace of mind to our client.

Example of Junction boxes that can be found under floors

During the rewiring process, our client will remain in the property for the duration so we will ensure that there is no loss of power, and all floorboards and carpets are put back each night.

The consumer unit in the property is a metal split load consumer unit and meets current wiring standards and so we will not be replacing this, this helps to keep the costs within budget.

The rewire is expected to last four days and will be fully rewired, plastered chases and tested before completion.

If you or your family are considering rewiring your Fylde Coast property then please fill in our free consultation form below for a free survey and quotation.

CARAVAN SITE SUB MAINS ELECTRICAL UPGRADE

FCR were contracted by North Country Leisure to upgrade the sub mains to the original side of the caravan park.

This project started off tricky as the supply cables were buried in the ground and we did not have the exact locations of the buried cables.

With some great help from the park manager Mark, we expertly pinpointed the cables. The supply cables all required extending as the new site mains cabinet was being moved to a more suitable location.

Once the main cables had been extended Ash and Charlie installed the new mains cabinet in the ground, this involved some concrete, uni-strut and some brut strength as these cabinets are not the lightest.

Inside the cabinet we installed a 16-way Schneider single phase consumer unit https://www.se.com/uk/en/work/products/product-launch/easy9/ , the site chose Schnieder as the rest of the park have Schneider installed and it is a very reliable brand.

Each van was protected by a 16-amp 30 milliamp RCBO. On this site, the client prefers to have the caravan meters installed inside the site cabinets as opposed to installing them within the caravan meter boxes. Ash installed the meters nice and neatly within the cabinet.

Time was not on our side for this installation as the site had to have the power restored and up and running by 5.00pm as had been agreed with the lodge owners, we managed to switch the site back on with around 30mins spare time.

If you are a leisure park manager or owner and are looking for a reliable electrical contractor to carry out your caravan park electrical installation then please fill out our form below for a free chat or advice on how FCR Electrical can help.
